The Mysteries of Free Masonry Containing All the Degrees of the Order Conferred in a Master Lodge William Morgan Books

This book, in my view, is likely more helpful for an individual who is already a Mason than for a non-Mason. As the name implies, it includes a worthy amount of detail retarding the "degrees" and the specifics of the "degree work." It does a good job in this respect. The information is essentially presenting the "script" for certain degree work. I found it difficult to discern "all the degrees" even though many were numbered in the book. Unfortunately, it does not - again in my view - live up to the title of/inferring to reveal the "mysteries of Free Masonry." To the extent that degree work should be maintained confidential, it may reveal a "mystery" in the respect that confidential material is published. Beyond that, it does not do much.
Mechanically, the kindle edition left me wanting a page numbering system, some way tomove through the book, etc. Not uncommon characteristics (complaints) of free kindle editions.
So, in sum, it does deliver some of the script material for degree work. It also includes some of the background of the degree; however, that is quite limited. As noted, it does have many of the characteristic issues of economical kindle versions. When considering that the edition is essentially "free," it is easier to take some of the drawbacks with a grain of salt.

Hard to get into. Maybe I can try a different time in my life. Downloaded it for research purposes.
Only if you are a member, in good standing, of the Fraternal Order of Freemasonry, should you buy and read this book.
Because, if you just want to know what the Masonic Order is all about, this book will not tell you.
Only an Initiated, Passed, and Raised Freemason can gain from the information contained here.
But all Recognized and Accepted Freemasons should buy and read and study this material and by so doing, they will gain Light, More Light and Further Light.
I downloaded this eBook out of curiosity of how the masonic orders operate. On the positive side, the detailed description of various masonic initiations was verbatim and extremely complicated in nature. On the negative side, my interest began to wane do to the technically descriptive nature of what the author was sharing. I was left wondering what type of person would be attracted to this type of service/lifestyle. It certainly is not my cup 'o tea.
This was an interesting book. Many of the information contained within the book was very close to what actually happens in the lodge. I did feel there was some discrepencies between what I remember, but overall, pretty accurate. I got this to satisfy my curiosity as to how accurate and how much of each of the degrees and lodge proceeding that they would include. Pretty surprising as to how much was included. Did give some background as to what and why things were happening, so this might be good for someone just entering the lodge. I wouldn't recommend this book to anyone who was going through the process, as there were some inconsistencies, so wait and go through it yourself, I think it would mean more to you that way.
I have to be honest...I am a total snoop. I am curious about all things off limits to me, but the FreeMasonry was different. I got this book hoping to learn some of the history and how the Masons tied into that history. This book was much different. Very repetitive, often times tedious to get through, the book draaaagggeed on. There were aspects that were interesting and I did come away from the book knowing more about the Free Masons than I previously had. The question being then, how much of this did I really want to know? Unless you are an avid fan, I would say skip it.
This book represents a great historical artifact of the anti-masonic movement of the 19th Century. While supposed detailed descriptions of Masonic ritual abound on the internet today, at the time this tell-all book was meant to shock a nation where many influential politicians belonged to the Masonic Fraternity. William Morgan paid a high price for publishing this book after being turned away from membership in a Masonic Lodge. His infamous murder sparked not only an anti-masonic movement, but also an anti-masonic political party.

While this book claims to describe in detail the rituals and practice of Freemasonry, any true Mason will tell you that the true meaning of Masonry is not found in the ritual itself, but in its deeper meaning that one uncovers as they learn the significance of the ritual. The process of becoming a Mason is a life-long journey of learning and a desire for wisdom. Books like these often twist the meaning of ritual and misinterpret the symbol by an overly literal interpretation. The Masonic Fraternity is not a sinister pagan society, but an esoteric society based of the philosophy of symbols.

While I respect the place this book has in history, and certainly do not condone the actions of a small group of Masons in perpetuating the murder of William Morgan, I don't recommend this book for those who want to know more about Freemasonry in general. I would recommend several books, also available for free, by Albert G. Mackey, who was a Mason. As a rule, I don't rely on 'anti' books to give me an accurate picture of any religion or philosophy, whether it be anti-Catholic, anti-Muslim, or anti-Mormon.

As for the version, it is a standard free version. Obviously there are few bells and whistles, but the text is alright, not a lot of problems. You can find this all over the internet for free, but this probably works best for your . But if you do download this, do yourself a favor and download 'The Symbolism of Freemasonry' and start there instead.

3 Stars because there are better free books about Freemasonry available on .
